If no one knows about your finding, both patients and peers miss out on the opportunity to benefit from the hard work that went into it! Important tips and templates for developing an abstract, creating a poster for presentation and getting from start to finish on your manuscript publication can be obtained from the research support office (919-681-2617). In addition, links to web-based presentations offering more detail on each of these important topics can be found on the back of this booklet.
One of the most important steps in sharing your findings is to have a goal, be it a local community or hospital newsletter or a national professional meeting. To help set personal goals for dissemination of your research, use a table such as the one below to identify opportunities for presentation. Remember, national meetings may require “original” or first-time reports of new knowledge. Local or regional meetings, however, often permit repeat presentation of findings so remember to present important findings at important meetings first! Use staff meetings or in-services to practice your presentation prior to “taking it on the road”.
